Configuration Problems

I just built a new computer and was wondering about the correct way to set up my IDE devices. I have the following drives:

Maxtor 30GB ATA66
WD 30GB ?? (older model)
Plextor 40/16/10 Burner
Pioneer 16X DVD

The motherboard is the ABIT KT7A RAID. How would you properly set that up (Primary/master/slave/or RAID?) and which drives should have DMA enabled on them? Thank you for your help!

I would use DMA when ever the drive will except it...

tell me some general uses you will be using with the drives...

Are you going to use second hdd as a storage only? Do you dvd-rip? etc.

I know nothing about the raid controller stuff though.

I have an extra ata 100 controller and though I have 5 devices currently my goal is to go down to 4 devices that way between the coard and the onboard controller each device is a master on its own channel. IMO that is the most optimal. No transfer problems with drives trying to share same channel and limited possibly by the available bandwidth.

All the drives should have DMA enabled.. in Windows.

But for the Plextor, you have to add in an extra jumper on the reserve pins right next to the audio connector on the drive. This will enable the Plextor in DMA mode instead of PIO4.
