Confession of a x64 Pro window user

Admittedly, I had my doubts before deciding to venture out with the x64, and even more so soon after installing it. Since then there have been over two months now, I'm somewhat happy to report that things seem to be in for the better.🙂 Thank you.
Sure there were moments during those past two months that I did seriously reconsider going to xp Pro and dump this piece of c#&p. Conflicting, or wrong drivers installed were among a few bruised bumps. Finding the right drivers took time and research to make sure you don't make the dump mistakes twice, sometimes thrice. Well, very much what I wanted it to do for me, whether playing an on-line game, burned a dvd copy, or video capturing etc. It did it well and yes, relatively fast too, or faster than the other 32 bit machine I own.
Things do hiccup however, especially more so with 64 than 32 but that's expected. My last recent unpleasant experience was the C.L. Audigy 2 ZS, 64 bit signed driver upgrade hiccup.
Knowing this product is still in its infancy phrase, so big patience is the keyword. Patience has paid off at times when things run so fast and so smooth that make you feel like you're one of a few specials that have the luxury of using this product.
Well I've always wanted to add a hdtv tuner to my rig but there were no mfgs out there offering their product in 64 bit version. So today I did send Kworld an email asking whether their ATSC pci tuner had x64 driver, well they got back with me quickly, saying yes, but it is only a Beta, well, it's better than nothing. So today on my way home from work, I'm going to stop by Fry's to pick it up and try it tonight.
How long will the x64 marriage last? Seriously dunno but I keep my fingers crossed.
Just some thoughts i wanted to share...Until then.

Glad to hear you had a good experience. The HDTV tuner thing is the only thing keeping me away from x64 too - and I can't live without my HDTV tuner, so until that has drivers, I can stick with regular XP Pro...😛

Edit: I know that the Dvico FusionHDTV 5 has 64-bit drivers (I'm not sure how well they work, but they do exist...)...I tried out my brother's Fusion 5 Lite for a while (on XP Pro 32-bit), and I wasn't terribly impressed. I had a few issues with video stuttering, and the software didn't seem quite as stable as mine...it would be nice to be able to move to x64, but I think for now I'm going to have to stick with my MyHD MDP-130 card (which doesn't, and may never, have x64 drivers available).

I tried x64 for a short time before switching back to XP Pro. Since I'm a gadget person, trying all kinds of different hardware, x64 posed problems with getting the proper drivers to run most items. I had problems with my Audigy too. I'm glad that matter is settled, but I will wait until the product is tweaked about for the next few months.
Will continue to watch for continued improvements before re-installing x64. Good thread.....

I just build a new AMD64 x2 system and order a Windows XP x64 edition, after the first night of installation and playing with it, i am thinking about moving back to 32 bit and then probably try the x64 edition in the next two month. what i am doing is mostly internet, some DVD encoding, some old video games (like simcity 4 and Red alert 2) and VPN back to office (no go for x64)

Hardware wise, i have x2 4400+ nforce4 ultra with SATA2 Hard Disk, and waiting for the x1600 pro video card and NEC 16x DL DVD burner

Besides finding the right drivers , in which is sometimes a real venture. Other than that, I'd like to report too that the x64 seems running almost as stable as any 32 bit o/s out there.

I also have been using Windows XP Pro 64bit and have loved it so far, my system's seem to boot up quicker and windows and folders seem to open up a lot faster as well. My benchmark in 3DMark05 dropped like 400 points in XP 64, but my 3DMark06 score remained the same, so im not worried. Performance within games has been great, image quality in Half Life 2: Lost Coast in 64bit is amazing, well in 32bit its amazing, barely any difference really. Just my two cents on this OS mate.

P.S. I didn't really have any driver problems, maybe because I installed it on both my system not too long ago and so all drivers were already available.

grr...wanna use x64 but my modem is not supported..no driver..that's the only thing that's keeping me to x32 but well we'll see what the future reserves us in terms of OS, hopefully Vista will be good and take advantage of our 64bit processors, well nice to know your marriage is going strong with xp64 🙂

well i've got a prolink hurricane 8000 usb adsl modem (no driver, even wrote to prolink a few months back and as usual same asnwer, not available atm) , i've got a zoom pci adls modem and no driver again...haven't tried but maybe m dial-up modem may be recognised by windows as xp pro 32bit recognises it and have the default drivers, but then going dial-up...ugh...anyway thanks mate

maybe i'll try x64 again, just checked msi's site and saw some new drivers posted for its chipset and for x64 too! now must find my dial-up modem
