I tried the defogger kit and had no luck. It was a pain to apply to the small bridges.

If you are trying to close the L1 bridges on an AMD chip just use a really sharp pencil. Works every time:)

Applying the defogger stuff over the l1 bridges is tricky, requiring a "steady hand" and patience. But it's really not hard.

I successfully did it to 2 duron processors this past saturday.

First off, if you mess up- no problem. I used some acetone and a cotton cutip to remove (the stuff will easily come off even after it dries).

Have some electrical tape and portion of an index card handy - you'll need this to tape on one side of each L1 and hold the card down over the other side ( cause you don't wanna place the tape over the l1 bridge ya jus applied the stuff to!).

Use a toothpick to apply the stuff to each l1.

Took me four tries on my duron 800 before i was satisfied. Make sure you get it right before you go to the trouble of re-installing all the mb and parts.

Hey- it seems to work swell! My 800 duron is running at 950 and runs at 1 gig easily- decided to run at 950 as a compromise as my temps at 1 gig got up to 114 F.

Incidently, my duron 65o done the same way is running at 900 very stably.

Good Luck!

it looks like a major pain! I built my first amd system today since the k6-2 days. It was for a friend who doesn't OC so I got to examine a Duron chip for the first time. Those bridges are flippin tiny! I'll need new eyes and a couple nerve pills before doing that :)

Some Art Supply stores have real thin tape which can be used to mask off between the bridges. A razor blade can be used as a guide, kinda let the fluid follow the edge of the blade. Takes a little practice and a steady hand, but its not brain surgery. Acetone cleans up well.

Don't think that its available online but most Auto Parts stores carry them. You want the Loctite/Permatex Kit 15067.

If you use the defogger, have patience. It may take a few tries.
Also, a 3rd hand helps SO MUCH (For those who don't know, I am speaking of those little gadgets with the weight in the center, 2 alligator clips on a rod, and a magnifying glass often attached). I stuck my CPU into some styrofoam, had the claws grab that, magnifying glass above it, and managed to place the stuff perfectly with straight sewing pin (tried a toothpick but the pin doesn't soak any of the conductive paint, so worked much better. Also hear that little eyeglass repair type screwdrivers work well). Been going at 1GHz for a couple months now.

And if you screw up, nail polish remover. Alcohol doesn't work that well to get it off.
