Conducting an interview... suggestions for recording?

Anyone here conducted an in person or over the phone interview with someone for an assignment?

I have never actually used any audio recording devices. Any types you would recommend to clearly capture the speaker?

Yes.
It is an interview

Any decent cassette player/recorder will pick up the conversation off of a speaker phone.

Why would you want to record it. It seems out of the ordinary, maybe get someone with a memory to conduct the interview instead.
