I wish I had before shots. It was awful. The tan carpet was so filthy, it was black. The drywall had large holes knocked in it. The once white walls were a creamy yellow from the dirt and grime. (Thankfully, not from smoking inside.)
We tore out large sections of drywall, pulled up the carpet and scrubbed the concrete slab.
We put this flooring everywhere, except the bedrooms. They have some high grade carpeting.
We festively painted the walls any color but white, and bought home decor and paintings from Z-Gallery to tie the palette together. The lighting in the living space is currently horrendous. That will be fixed. That is a drawing fireplace, which will be used and displayed appropriately. The clutter spilled over from the rooms we are working on currently. And the can of RAID is for the Texas Cicada Killer (Hornet) infestation outside, not roaches.
As with any remodel, the kitchen was the hardest, most expensive room. We have a top-end Bosch dishwasher waiting to be pushed in once the lower cabinets are installed. We bought matching stainless GE Profile fridge and stove/cook top, and a stainless vent hood that have yet to be installed for the the same reason, cabinets.
This is what we have so far:
Color scheme: The red is not as bright as it appears in the photo -- the photo is over saturated. The pulls are all stainless, and the cabinets are very dark brown.
Expanded shot, pantry: We have cover boards to install over the white side panels. These cabinets are ridiculously sturdy -- we looked at Kraftmaid cabinets and the junk at Home Depot, and found the Ikea systems to be excellent.
Cool pantry interior: I like the drawers and baskets! The soft close hinges are a nice touch when you combine heavy doors and tight hinges. Otherwise, the door slams.
The master bathroom was also a challenge. We opted to keep the existing tile work (for now) and will just re-caulk and potentially, re-grout.
Single sink vanity: If you notice, the vanity is deeper than the top. We are building a custom shelf back there. The mirror will be home decorish; probably an oval mirror with a brushed nickel decorative frame. (Pardon the mess, we are still unpacking.)
Color scheme: All of the rooms are colorful, with accent walls. Turned out well.
Overhead cabinet, and tall cabinet: The outlet is for some ambient lighting above and below the top cabinet. It will be hidden. No A/C vents yet, anywhere.
Kitchen update, 08/08/09:
We did a dry fitting of the counter top, stainless back splash, sink, and dishwasher. We'll do the supplies, Dispose-All, and dishwasher connections today or tomorrow, and finalize that side of the kitchen. We still need to install the cover panels to conceal the white cabinet sides, and install the kick board at the base of the cabinet.
Kitchen dry fit, looking good.
