Here in NC any fireworks that go above 6 feet are illegal. (Atleast, I think thats the height. Its somewhere around there.) A few families went down to the South Carolina border and bought huge crates of edit: "illegal" fireworks that shoot up, go pop, make pretty patterns etc. I was standing at the end of the street watching (its a coul-de-sec) and a cop pulled right up to where they were setting them off.

This was under complete control by middle-aged adults with children. This was NOT a bunch of teenagers just shooting up roman candles. They had atleast 150 people all "behind the line" watching the display from a safe distance.

They're illegal, I know. They're dangerous. But there are, for sure, atleast a hundred fackturd teens shooting candles from their cars right now. The cops come and bust down a bunch of middleaged folk shooting them off for several yard-full's of children.

No, it doesn't matter one bit if it's teenagers or adults. They are illegal. That is that....

Did they expect to be able to break the law just because they are responsible adults? If that is your logic, I'm pretty responsible.... why can't I carry a gun into a government office? Or perhaps drive on the wrong side of the road? I'm perfectly capable and I'm (pretty) sure no one will get hurt.

agreed

if someone got hurt, their would be lawsuits up the azz, just because there adults that doesnt mean their not breaking the law.

And just because they're adults does NOT mean they are responsible. Stop crying like a fvcking baby and watch the fireworks on t.v. like everyone else.

So he complains when adults are setting off fireworks but after the cops come when the kids start shooting them off he complains.

Sounds like a case of ageism to me. You're just an ageist.

Ok, so you are exempt from the law because you are a "responsible adult", whereas if a "fuktard teen" does it they are horrible?

Shut up and jump on a set of let fireworks. Do the world a favor.

Well a friend of mine had a gob of illegal fireworks several years ago. I asked where he got them. He said, "Phil confiscated all this stuff from someone and gave them to me."

Phil is his brother, who is a police officer in Michigan. Apparently, they confiscated a bunch of illegal fireworks from someone, kept what they wanted, and gave his brother the rest.

And no, this isn't 'unusual'. The fire inspectors and fire chiefs often do raids on the fireworks stands in Michigan, confiscating tons of stuff. And what do you know, the fireman all light off illegal stuff on the Fourth. I'm sure they purchased all that stuff and there's no connection.

A lot of cops would not confiscate stuff from adults who seemed to be behaving rationally. I mean, its the Fourth of July for crying out loud.

They've been doing near-professional fireworks in my neighborhood since 8pm and it's 10:30p now. I can look around 360deg and see various homes still lighting them off. Some people have lots of $$$ to burn, literally. Not me though. But I'll enjoy the free show.

Cops here don't care on the 4th. 3rd or 5th, that's a problem.

AND NOW, THE REST OF THE STORY:

Some random old lady talked to the cop about how everyone was safe and having a good time while two of the aforementioned teens took a rocket and sped off on their weedwhacker-scooter-things. Apparently she succeeded in talking the cop out of the fine just before the two boys set off the rocket on the street behind where all this was going on. The cop jumped in his car to try to find them :) (I don't think the kids and the rocket were related to the "talk the cop out of it" thing.. I think they were just pissed and wanted the cops gone. Could be wrong though.)

As it turns out, they spent $1000 in fireworks. Usually they get a permit ($75) but the past two years they haven't. So they're applying for a permit tomorrow and will send up the remaining (significant) portion in a few nights. With the attendance of a fire truck. (It's been raining here for the past week. Still doesn't change the facts though..)

So all in all, they got out of the ticket, will pay the $75, and everyone will have more fun in a few days legally :)

I understand wanting fireworks, we set off some illegal fireworks tonight as well, but what's with your little piss fest with teens? I hope one of them lights a rocket in your ass.

Ahhhh, another reason I like living in Texas - fireworks are still legal :D

Twice a year (4th of July and New Years), for two weeks, there are fireworks stands on every corner. Gotta love freedom here in Texas.

In Indiana you can get most anything, they do however make you buy a 2$ card that allows you to have them. I think as with many things in Indiana that they are actually Illegal however you can buy them at Sams Club, mortars, rockets, and firecrackers ect..... Funny place Indiana, if a law dosent seem popular (like helmet laws and fireworks) there is allways some loophole. Of course if you blow yourself up its your own arse...

Happy 4th all
