Haven't been to a concert in ages. Was viewing the seating and was trying to figure out which is better -

Given the same level for the seats -

Seats on the side of the stage or seats straight in front of the stage

On the one hand, the seats straight ahead provide the "simplest" view. However, the seats on the sides appear to give a much closer view of the stage, although one would need to turn their head to one side.

Acoustically you want to be in the middle. The sides don't sound as good, in fact can be down right terrible. Ideally you'd be in front of the monitor booth/station.

Yeah I figured in front would be best. I think I just got suckered into the madness of buying tix as soon as they went on sale. Due to the high volume, all I got available was seats on the side. An hour later, plenty of seats directly in front were available.

Note to self: Never buy tix within the first hour of the sale unless it's guaranteed to sell out. :)

bleh, i'd rather be at the soundboard for most concerts i go to.

thats the best place in any concert. try to get something on the floor right in front of the house booth, so your view isnt blocked by the tent and the sound is damn near perfect.

I heard that modern theaters are designed so that there aren't any "bad" seats. But I like sitting on the sides, because you can see what goes behind the scenes on the sides and on top. Its pretty damn cool.

Why do music fans not care about hearing damage?

The soundboard/monitor area is in the acoustic perfect spot for the theater. Not the loudest - but the place with the least reflections and even tonal balance. Every theater has a sweet spot.
