Concert recordings: Yay or Nay?

Do you enjoy listening to recorded concerts of bands that you also enjoy? They typically vary in quality but I tend to find the slight differences in their music enjoyable.

They are OK every now and again, but I like studio recordings better. It is hit or miss, though. Just depends on the mixing.

Sure, I enjoy live versions of my favorite groups, but I've heard plenty where I could have done better with a tape recorder.

Yeah i usually like 'em. i really love RATM live stuff, most metallica stuff is fun to listen to. everyone thought S&M was a flop. i thought some of the songs were absolutely magical!

Really shows the difference between who can really play and who can manages to assemble something in the studio.

Neil Young records live in the studio with all the players playing at once. Grateful Dead shows tended to blow away studio recordings. Counting Crows are of another generation and have grown up with studio technology but make songs new again live.

I actually PREFER live recordings. It shows you the true talent of the performers. They can't hide behind editors and overdubs.

I also love bands that improvise and change their songs live.

Phish-head here. You HAVE to have the live versions to enjoy it. Same with Grateful Dead. Their music (and just about any jamband) must be heard live because their studio efforts dont show off the improvisation or energy of the show.
