Concerning 1333 and price cuts

Recently I've been looking into getting a Core 2 Duo processor for my 945G based mobo.

I was wondering two things:

1) What chipsets support these new 1333 FSB Core 2 Duos? More specifically; does the 945G?

2) Are the existing Core 2 Duos (E6600 in particular) prices going to drop? I've heard July 22nd, and now I'm reading some rumors that they won't be dropping. If they are dropping; to what extent?

There are no official price drops on the existing processors, but I'd imagine the retailers would have to drop prices on, say, the E6600 just to compete with the price drops on the other processors that perform similarly. I'm assuming retailers already have a pretty good stock of E6600s and have to move them out sometime.

The latest intel chipsets officially support 1333: P35, G33, X38 (or something like that).

There are no official price drops on the existing processors, but I'd imagine the retailers would have to drop prices on, say, the E6600 just to compete with the price drops on the other processors that perform similarly. I'm assuming retailers already have a pretty good stock of E6600s and have to move them out sometime.

I mean, there won't be official price drops on the processors that exist right now (as in, E6700/6600/6400/6300/etc etc etc). In effect, these processors are all being "replaced" by Intel's new models (which include the 1333 FSB models).

Yeah that apparently is what those articles say:

Along with those chips will reportedly come a shift in pricing that will place the Core 2 Quad Q6600 at a scant $266 (down from $530 today) and the entirety of the Core 2 Duo line?upcoming chips included?at $266 and below.

Rumor has it Intel will cut prices on existing models next week, causing the Core 2 Quad Q6600 to land at $266, as well. If that happens, folks, it'll be buyin' time.

Some of the ASUS boards with recent nVidia chipsets support 1,333 Mhz FSB. I haven't kept up on all the others, since I"ve been focusing on my Striker Extreme. I think some of the other nVidia-based boards by eVGA, BFG, etc. also support that speed, but you'll have to check. I had thought some Intel-based boards like the ASUS Commando also supported 1,333, but I was wrong -- I just checked that one while writing this.
