Concerned my SSD might be failing.

I bought an OCZ SSD about a year and a half ago and I am noticing some weird activity lately. I am concerned that my SSD might be failing so I would like to check it. I guess I could google it, but that would defeat the purpose of this forum so I am asking you guys. What is the best way to check your SSD to see if it is failing?

Symptoms for those wondering:

-Freezes for several seconds when I shut down or load up the PC sometimes.
-certain programs crash more than they used to.
-Desktop icons keep being displaced every few power cycles, forcing me to move all my shortcuts back into place.

*Disclaimer-windows8 has defrag set to run automatically and it has been for most of that year and a half. I read somewhere once that defrag tends to shorten the lifespan of SSD's.

I thought Windows 8 (and maybe Windows 7?) disables defrag when installed on an SSD.

Just curious, did you do a fresh install of Windows 8 on your SSD?

I agree with Charlie98 - it sounds more like OS problems.

One of the main signs of SSD (impending) death is, long freezes of the whole machine, followed by event log errors/warnings about the long delay.

This could be a RAM issue (run memtest86+ overnight, to make sure there are 0 errors), and then, reinstall the OS.
