Concern with noise from cooling fans...

I use my PC as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) in addition to relatively high-end graphics machine (I use Maya, gameSpace... and new games ;) ).

I can't afford to purchase a dedicated DAW and I'm seeking to upgrade my present Athlon 1Gh PC that also has a GeForce 2 GTS card. I'm looking to get a ASUS A7N8X Delux mobo to retain compatibility with my current RAM.

First of all, does anyone have any recommendations for a good, current video card that is also relatively quiet? Second, are there any recommendations for dampening the noise from the mobo fan?

Oh... and I'm not very tech savvy so if I've stated any of the above incorrectly... hopefully someone will be good at making correct inferences. ;)

If you mean the cpu fan then there are plenty of hsf that are good and quiet (the Zalman cnpa7000 comes to mind) if you mean a fan on the northbridge then you can get a heatsink also from zalman

You can get just about any video card and then perform this mod. I'm quite pleased with the results.

And welcome to the forums. :)

As for the mobo fan if you buy the a7n8x deluxe it has a passive heat sink so no worries :)
Video cards are a whole nother story but for my money buy a ATI 9700 PRO is a great buy for the $250.00 price range.

I believe there is an ATI 9600 NP that has a passive heatsink, I believe it might be built by Powercolor though. But still a great card.
