Concern over new E6600 OEM: Sticker Residue

I am the proud new owner of C2D E6660 that I bought from Club IT. However, one thing is concerning me now that I am building my rig:

The sticker on top of the large heat spreader had to be removed. However, it left a sticky residue on the top, which I have been trying to get off with isopropyl alcohol. After multiple attempts, I can still see the outline where the sticky portion was spread out and it is ever so lightly rougher (slight). Should I just go ahead and put on the artic silver compound and install it... or should I try something else to remove the slightest reminents?

Thanks in advance for any input.
My first post as well, btw.

Do you have Goo-Gone or anything in that sort? Those things will do. Ask your mom/girl for nail-polish remover. (Acetone) That will also take care of the gooey sticker glue.

So this is an OEM E6600, and it came with a sticker ontop of the IHS?? If so then yes, you definitely should get it completely cleaned off. If I was in your shoes I'd spend as long as it took to get it off.

It sounds more like there was heat tape on the HSF he is trying to get off so he can use Arctic Silver. The CPU I am sure is fine, but the retail version I am assuming comes with heat tape pre-aplied to the HSF. My CPU will be here on Saturday from ClubIT, retail version, I am curious if this is the case.

I got mine for ClubIT as well, they actualy put a freakin sticker on the IHS of the cpu. I don't have my motherboard yet, and haven't attempted to clean off the residue yet, but it was definatly not a bright thing to do on their part.

EDIT: I also found it ammusing that the plastic case they put it in says AMD on it.

The Artic Silver site has some good documentation on cleaning these parts. Use Xylene (Goo be gone) as the initial cleaner. Then use 90% or greater Denatured Alcohol to clean off the Xylene residue. You can get it all at a big box hardware store.

Why would they put a sticker on the CPU???????? Can't imagine how many CPUs they will need to replace because there are bound to be people who won't know any better and not remove the sticker and clean it before attaching the HSF.

Pure alcohol will take it off. Trust me, I've done it.

And yeah, shipping them in AMD snap cases was kind of ironic :D

Got me an e6400 for now, retail. The retail box is:
(1) cardboard outer shell
(2) interior 'case' is snap-close plastic housing the HSF with the CPU in a small compartment between the front and back of the HSF casing. The CPU is visible from outside of the box and has NOTHING on it (sticker/thermal paste wise).
(3) manual

The HSF has pre-applied thermal goop, in a triple stripe layout. I didn't bother to even try mine and just used a zalman 9500at.

Got my E6600 from ClubIT as well. I removed the sticky residue with some nail polish remover and a micro fiber towel then I blasted it with some compressed air to make sure it was lint free.
