A concept vehicle designed to illustrate potential technology options for improving survivability and mobility in future military combat vehicles will be shown publicly for the first time Sept. 13-15 at a military technology meeting in Virginia.

he concept vehicle, known as the ULTRA AP (Armored Patrol), was built to help the U.S. military evaluate multiple science and technology options ? including ballistic and mine protection ? that could benefit future vehicle design. The concept vehicle combines proven vehicle technologies with advanced materials and engineering concepts.

I used to drive HMMWV vehicles many years ago, and they're really nothing special. Just a diesel truck with a wider frame and sturdy frame.

This new vehicle makes me drool. It finally appears that our defense budget will go into a truck that is little more than a beefed up pickup.

Those pictures make it seem funny-looking and oddly-proportioned in my eyes...

... I wonder how long it'll take before it's available to be sold to civilians?

Oh for god's sake. Apparently, the US army has learned nothing from Iraq or Afghanistan.

One of the main problems that Canadian Forces in Afghanistan had is that HUMVEES DO NOT FIT DOWN THE STREETS. They are simply TOO BIG.

That thing is a BEHEMOTH. Totally impractical for urban warfare.

It does look tall doesn't it.

Look at the road in the picture. The road is clearly a one-way road (tire grooves). That thing isn't really all that wide. The H1 would probably be almost hanging off either side of a road like that.
