Computers won't detect each other on network

I'm trying to set up a two computer network in my off-campus apartment. I have a hub from the school that was given so the computers could share a DSL modem, all the TCP/IP settings are identical, with the exception of the IP address, I've ran HOme Networking Wizard on both computers numerous times, the green lights are on on the ethernet cards and the hub (he and I are able to connect to the internet) and the computers still won't detect each other. The domain address is the same, I don't get it. My computer is running Win98SE and my roomates is WinME. Can anybody help me? I think its the hub, for some reason I don't think it was made to network computers just share a DSL modem.
