Computer won't "wake up" after inactivity

Weird problem which cropped up a few months ago. This is a Win 7 desktop that is set to never go to sleep, and it doesn't actually go to sleep. It turns off the screen after inactivity, and then pretty often I can't get the computer to respond again without hard rebooting. It seems like it just doesn't respond to the keyboard and mouse. I tried setting it to go to sleep, and when it does go to sleep it wakes up fine after - but sometimes it does the exact same thing and doesn't go to sleep, just stops responding.

I have no idea what is wrong and have no idea how to test for what is wrong. Would appreciate any ideas.

I had this issue awhile back and it turned out to be my ATI drivers. I eventually replaced the card completely since the newer drivers were problematic in other areas...

If you have a Radeon, update your drivers.

I do have a Radeon, and I will, thanks.

I had this problem with my i3-3240 and 7790 1GB card, and the 14.4 WHQL drivers. I had to revert back to the 13.12 Cats, to fix my monitor non-wakeup problem.

But then a week or two later, I started to get "display driver not responding" errors.

I was doing DC using BOINC on the GPU at the time. Temps were under 50C according to GPU-Z.

My drivers were actually the latest "beta" version; rolled back to the last release version and that seems to have solved the problem, thanks!
