When I press then power button, the monitor remains blank and the box emits a long beep over and over.

I have a VNF4 Ultra motherboard, with a Socket 939 AMD 64 3000 +

according to the manufacturer you have an award BIOS, according to their beep codes (which are very hard to find documentation on) it is probably a RAM problem (try reseating it) but it could be a video or CPU problem

Thanks, I'll look into that. I've contacted Chaintech, but no response yet.

Turns out my brother had the bright idea of flashing the BIOS to v5.0 . :disgust:

I figured he'd toasted our motherboard for sure, however, after doing some digging, and talking to him, it sounds like he did everything correctly, and this is actually a common problem. I've contacted someone who offered to hot flash the bios for me, so that will hopefully solve the problem. See this thread for details:

Veeze is my brother.

Thanks for looking into it avi85, I really appreciate it.

On the plus side, being sans computer for a few days has given me a chance to finally read some books I've been meaning to read. :D
