Hey all, im about to go run out and try to buy a PS to swap in, but I was looking for some suggestions. I got home today, went to turn on the computer and it turned on for about 1 second then shut off.

If I try again it doesnt do anything. If I unplug the PS, let it sit for 30 secs or so, then plug it back in...it does the same behavior, one quick pulse of on (about 1sec) then off again.

I tried resetting the CMOS, and wiggling around all the cables...anything else or any ideas? thanks !

btw: my sig shows what I have. Also I have not been running it overclocked for a few months now.

Disconnect/remove all cables and any add-in cards and then reattach. I've done this before and got things running again - don't know which one was the culprit. Dust buildup can cause strange behavior.

Yup, it was the PS. I took it into Fry's and had them test it for me and it was dead as a doornail.

I dont no how much I like to trust what those people say, but the lady was telling me that I should go with a bigger PS, that may be the reason it burned out in the first place.

It makes somewhat sense that larger PS = cooler running and not running at max wattage the whole time. But the thing is I already had a 600W PS and I find it hard to believer I was approaching its max wattage.

I went up going with a thermaltake toughpower 750W PS and everything is working now :)

thanks guys.

I believe that in this case as in many others, quality is more important than quantity. Try a watt meter such as a $20 kill-a-watt - I'll bet that system uses ~250w under load.

Glad the problem is resolved.

right, which is what I always believed to which is why I bought the Seasonic S12 to begin with. I guess nothing is quality these days... How good is the thermaltake one that I bought?
Im debating trying to find a better deal online then just returning this one.

No experience/opinion on thermaltake. I'm pretty happy with Corsair and Seasonic.

I see now - didn't read the sig thoroughly. I have an S12/600 - never had a problem with it - although stuff happens. I would contact Seasonic or the retailer if covered. Unfortunately, this will take time.

Balancing time and money is a personal thing but one possibility is to get a Corsair hx520 (<$100 at buy.com) or 450 (not modular cabling) or a SeasonicII 430 or 480 (not modular) to get running now, get the 600 repaired and have either one as a spare/future psu. I would contact Seasonic even if you don't remember what the warranty is.

All of the above is assuming the correct diagnosis on the 600. Never been in a Fry's but have been in a MicroCenter, etc. and some of the employees remind me of car sales people.

42c at load is pretty impressive for a 1900xtx.
