Try holding the power button for 4 or 5 seconds until you hear it turn off. If that doesn't work, well...sorry, don't know.

Winblows 9x and Me have well-known shutdown issues with several "fixes". Do a google search on "Windows Me Shutdown" to find huge documentation. Some say that setting "Plug & Play Aware OS" in CMOS settings to NO does the trick. Good luck. In one case I solved recently, it was just a matter of deleting the mouse from DevMgr and letting W redetect and re-install drivers. I can't imagine why anyone puts up with Mickeysoft crap--use Linux-OS/2-BSD-anything else...
.bh.
btw, the above search is something you should have done before inquiring here. He helps those that help themselves...

Most modern mobos have a setting in the bios to delay the hard drive shutdown becuase processors are getting so fast that they shut down before the hard drives can save all the work on the drive at shutdown. I believe your bios has it. Try it you have nothing to lose. You can give the system a delay of 1-15 seconds or more delay before the cpu shuts off.
Thats just a guess but it might work Also if you have a lot of mapped drives that could cause a shutdown problem too. The winblows update page has a shutdown fix available on there site.
There is also a setting in win98's msconfig advanced section whereby you can disable "fast shut downs". Try any one of them or don't try any...it's totaly up to you ;)
