Computer Won't Start

Ok this is very strange. I bought a new MP3 player and plugged it into my computer and transferred a few songs to it. When I unplugged the USB cable from the comp the whole thing just shut off. When I hit the power button all the fans spin for a split second and then die. If I hit it again nothing happens until I shut off the PSU and turn it back on then it repeats this behavior. I took apart my entire computer and reassembled it with only the MB, PSU, RAM, CPU, and HDDs plugged in to see if it would boot at all. It does the same thing. Someone told my either my PSU or MB is fried but I don't see how unplugging a USB device can cause that. My system specs are below.

Athlon64 3200+
Chaintech VNF3-250 Mobo
2x 512mb PC3200 RAM(Corsair Value)
2x 74gb Raptor HDDs
GeForce 6800 Ultra
Antec 520W PSU(Forgot the exact model number)

Any help would be much appreciated.
 
1) before you unplug the device, stop it. Use the little icon in the System Tray that has a green arrow on it.

2) Antec doesn't make a 520W PSU, so maybe verify what PSU you really have 🙂

Same thing just happened to me except it was with my mouse and keyboard. It seems to happen a lot witht he Chaintech VNF3 cause that's what I have. I dropped the computer on my floor and it started back up. Try giving it some love taps 😛
 
Sorry it is infact and Aspire 520W PSU. I don't think tapping it is going to help. I've taken it apart all the way and reassembled from sratch. I looked over the entire motherboard and couldn't find anything visibly wrong with it. I think I'll try a friend's PSU tomorrow if he lets me to rule out the possibility that it is the PSU.

So could unplugging the USB device without dissconnecting it in Windows have completely fried the motherboard?
 
Strange.....when I plug in the PSU and power it on, ocasionally it will briefly power the computer without my pressing the power switch at all. Could this point to the PSU indeed being faulty?
