Computer Won't Start

Hello,

A couple of days ago my computer stop booting up. When I hit the power button, the fans and harddrives will start to run for about 5 seconds and then turn off. I replaced the cpu fan and the case fans but no luck. I even tried a different power supply and disconnected everything except the motherboard and I have the same problem. Any idea what could be causing this? I have an ABIT K7A RAID motherboard and an AMD 1.1 T-bird. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I tried taking out the motherboard. I tried two different power supplies I had lying around. One was a 300 watt and another was a 200 watt. I disconnected all my harddrives and video card.

do you see the bios on your monitor at all or does it just sit for a few seconds without doing anything? does the hard drive seek at all?

Hi, I don't see the BIOS coming up at all. It doesn't turn on the montior. When I have the harddrives connected, they spin up for a couple of seconds before the system turns off.

What BRAND of power supply is it? Reseat the memory and video card. Do not have any pci cards installed. Leave all hard drives and cdroms unhooked from the system.

Thanks for the replies. There are no beeps coming from the motherboard. The power supply is generic and made from some company called Deer. I tried another power supply by compaq but it has the exact same problem.

Hi,

I took out the motherboard battery and put it back it. Now when I turn on the motherboard, the fans run but that's it. I tried with and without the video card and memory. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeah I thought it look cheap when I looked at it but it work great about 5 years so I'm not complaining to much. The next computer I build I'm going to pay a lot more attention to the power supply. Do you think the CPU could be bad? I have the same problem when I use another power supply made by compaq. I doubt that both power supplies would go bad at the exact same time. When I turn it on, the fans start up and that's it. Thanks.

It's not necessarily bad, just underpowered. I would rather have a 300w antec than a 550w generic powersupply.
