Hi i need some help with the following problem. When i connect power to the psu, the computer automatically starts. but nothing shows on the screen. i went to geek squad and they told me to get a new motherboard. The first time i turned it on, there was a weird noise and smell. then i disconnected it. and now everytime i turn it on, it doesn't do anything

Sounds like a short or something hooked up backwards (as hard as that is to do no days)... orrrr.. A bad PSU. I've had a PSU blow up in my face (literally) the first time turning it on.. wasnt a fun expirience. It'd explain the smell.

Pull out the motherboard power connector and look at the pins, are any of them black? Do you see any burn marks or black marks anywhere on the board? Where did the smell originate if you can tell? Do you have another power supply you can try? All may not be lost yet..
