Hi, I'll start with what I did before problems started. I had a usb 3.0 HHD enclosure with external power source plugged in. When I shut down the computer , all was well. I wanted to pull a pcie raid card, so I pulled the power plug but left the HHD enclosure connected to the mboard. Apparently this supplied 5v feedback power to the mboard. When I removed the pcie card the mboard started to act like it wanted to start-up.
Now, when I shut down the OS, sometimes I get a complete shutdown and sometimes the mboard keeps running. I can hit the power button on the front to complete the shutdown. Which would be OK except the machine will not post unless I first pull the power cord and wait 5-10 seconds. Then the machine posts and all works well. I've cleared CMOS with & w/o pulling the battery.
I'm wondering if I damaged the PSU , the Mboard or both/ Can I fix this? The board is a Foxconn Endura EM945G.
I've using WHS 2011 (oem) on this rig and I suspect that the key would not validate if I replace the Mboard with another cheapy.
As it is now, it's just an inconvenience to pull the power cord and remember to do so. The machine stays on most of the time.
Any and all guidance appreciated.
