Computer won't shut down.

Hi guys,

I'm running a Dell with Windows XP. For some reason, my computer won't shut down/log off today. It gives me a dialog window with the "Program Not Responding" bit, in reference to 'Direct CD'. I should probably note that this seemed to begin occuring after a Trojan was introduced into my system, but Norton caught it and got rid of it.

An extra question on the side-Does WinXP have a "scandisk" or equivalent type thing?

I appreciate your help. 🙂

Most people don't use DirectCD - it's an app that comes with EZ CD Creator that fools Windows into treating a CD-RW as a floppy (you can drag and drop files into it like a regular drive).

It's worthless except for archiving since someone else can't read the CD unless they also have Direct CD. I personally would not recommend using it - it's got a bad reputation as a misbehaved background app, and it's incompatible with Nero if you install that.

Go ahead and disable it in the Startup tab of MSCONFIG and see if it solves your problem. Better yet uninstall it.
