I installed a new abit kt7 mobo with a AMD 900 t-bird cpu.Everything is running fine no conflicts and great speed the only problem i have is when I want to shut down system it goes through the steps and the monitor feed goes off but the computer stays on.I have to shut it of with the power switch in the rear of the computer.Any ideas the operating sytem is Windows Me.

Thanks

Sully

Did you re-install WindowsME after installing this new hardware?

It is usually best to do this, especially with a motherboard.

Well I'll be damned. I have an Abit KA7 and share your problem. I've tried a bios flash, shutting off "fast shutdown" in msconfig, a microsoft win 98 fix called "shutdown suppliment", removing all "power profiles" in msconfig and I've updated all drivers. To no avail, it still will not shut down. The only thing I have not tried is re-installing windows. I have not had the chance yet to back up everything I want to keep, but this will be my next move. Please post a message if you try something that works for you. If the reinstall works for me i'll let you know.

cucumber,
I reinstalled Windows ME and I still have the same problem. When I hit restart it works fine but if I hit shut down the computer stays on but the video shuts down.

Wont the machine shut down just using the windows shutdown?? I have one machine that if I just punch the shutdown button on the machine it just goes into sleep mode. Turns off the video and HD if I hold in the switch for 6-8 seconds it will shut down.

I fixed it.I moved some pci cards around and now it shuts down.It must have been a irq conflict.
Now I am happy.
