computer Won't Shut Down normaly

When I go to start, shut down, turn off

the computer just seems to freeze up and sits there...

So I go to ctrl/alt/del and try shutting it down that way... sometimes I still need to push the button after it says "shutting down"

Why isn't it working?

so when you go to hit start then shut down, it goes to black and hangs without powering off, or does it hang on the desktop? If it is hanging on then desktop the maybe there is a program trying to do something during that time..

The first thing you should do is start > run > msconfig > uncheck startup group & disable non-microsoft services > apply > reboot
