computer wont see slave HDD

Greetings
Heres my problem, my system was working fine and last weekend my master HDD crashed so I bought a 2Terra HDD from the egg and installed it last night.

When I installed it I did disconnect the slave so when I installed the new HDD there was no other HDDs to confuse windows 🙂

Ok, so the intsall goes smoothly and then I go into windows and check out the new install and everything was fine so I then turn off the computer to re-connect my slave HDD. I do that and then go into the bios and I see that its there so I then reboot inot windows.

After windows loads up I check for my slave HDD in Explorer/my computer and it does not see it, (sigh) however, when I go to "Hardware properties" it sees it.

What could be the problem? so basically there really is nother new in my computer just the HDD...help please!

Thanks

Go into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management. You need to assign it a drive letter.

I think the drive was already formatted and used, in which case it should be auto-detected by windows. My guess is it's dynamic and you need to enable it for use. Either way, disk management is where you need to be.

Correct, it was fine before the master hdd died. Perhaps my sata cable went crazy on me.

I'm confused. Are these SATA or IDE drives we are talking about. OP talks about replacing Master drive with a 2TB HD, but those are only available in SATA, not in IDE. If these are not IDE drives, then there is no Master/Slave setting to worry about.

Sorry for the confusion. They are sata. I used the term master and slave just to make the point that it was being used as a extra hdd in my computer...sorry

P.S. how do I make the text BOLD?

just wanted to share my experience about slave hdd.
I have 3 hdd and a dvd drive all IDE. proper jumper settings is the key. though sometimes I have a proper jumper settings but not detected by the BOIS then trial and error really helps.

Go to Disk Management and have a look. It may not have a drive letter. Or it may need to be initialized. It may need to be formatted. It could be many things but Disk Management will tell you.
