Computer won't post

I disconnected my two SATA drives in my computer tonight.
I took out my ram, put in a Velicoraptor 300gb hd.
I hooked up the sata cable to the mb and the new HD, put the ram back in.

Now when I turn the power one, I get one high pitch whine that wont' stop til I turn off the computer. Nothing posts.

Any ideas what the problem could be? I don't think I bumped the heatsink, and if I did, it's tightened down pretty well. No idea what could be causing this.

I unplugged the sata cable that is connected to the new HD from the motherboard, same issue.

MB is a Gigabyte P45-DS3R.

Any ideas?

first thing that comes to mind is memory is not seated properly. it doesn't need a HD to post so that doesn't seem to be the problem. try different memory and make sure the cpu is mounted correctly and securely.

Memory problems are generally a series of beeps, what he is describing doesn't sound like a normal motherboard error message.

Ill re-seat the memory then. The CPU should not have moved, even if the heat sync was bumped slightly. Prior to taking out the ram, and disconnecting the other 2 hds, the computer posted fine before.

Have you tried booting with minimum config? Just CPU, RAM, VGA, and the required PSU connections. Try with ONE stick of RAM and see what happens, you also need to check your mobo manual for what the beep means

The issue was the power cable to the video card was not plugged in.
I plugged it in and that whine is gone.

NEW ISSUE. Now I get short beeps when turning on the computer. I am wondering if my Antec Truepower 550W is dead or just not enough power to power my OC cpu, 3 hds, 2 optical, and 8800gts. THe MB manual says continuous short beeps - power error
Maybe time for an 800W PS?

Reseat your RAM, try one stick at a time..
