Computer won't POST

Hi,

My computer has been working flawlessy for a few years (see sig). Today I tried turning it on after I came home from work, and nothing happened.

Well, not nothing exactly - the power supply fan starts to spin (Enermax 495), but nothing else shows any sign of life except for the motherboard (the DRAM and Standby light are on).

I tried switching RAM, there was no difference.. I don't think that would cause the computer to not turn on anyway.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I go out and buy a new PSU and hope that solves it? I have disconnected everything from the MB except the CPU, RAM, and HD (and tried without the HD connected also).

Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

Ok, so I held the power button down and the computer turned on and is now working fine. I've never had to do that before (didn't even know that it made a difference).

Any ideas on why it worked by holding down the power button?
