I've got an older Compaq Evo 300v machine with a 1.1ghz Celeron in it that I turned into an IPCop box (gateway/firewall for those who don't know what IPCop is).
I had a couple older PCI 10Mbps Realtek-based NICs in it, along with an Intel 10/100 onboard NIC. I've been having a lot of issues with it, and some people with similar issues have replaced their older NICs to resolve it.
I picked up an Intel Pro/100 M card to toss in there and now the computer won't POST. It sits there at the "Compaq - press <DEL> to enter setup" screen and hangs, no error beeps, nothing. This occurs with any combination of cards that includes the new Pro/100 - leaving the Realteks in there or not, it always hangs with the Pro/100 in, regardless of what PCI slot anything is installed in. If I pull the Pro/100 out, it all works as it should.
The Pro/100 works fine on two other computers, though. No problems at all. Boot, install hardware, connect to network - it all works.
I've tried disabling all the extraneous bits in the BIOS to ensure there were no hardware conflicts, with no success.
Ideas?
