got a small problem. a friend of mine asked me to look at this computer of his. i was told that it had a really bad virus (?) and he wanted me to clean the virus if possible. unfortunately i don't think i am getting the whole story, because i found out this computer was completely replaced by another one.
here is the setup:
asus p2b-ds
1 p3 550/512/100/2.0v S1, the other slot has some kind of asus card in it that says asus p2t pc100, i am not at all familiar with the slot chips (amd or intel) so bear with me
2 x 256MB PC100
scsi hdd/cdrom/cdrw
i have rewired the front panel because they were not correct, i have verified that the fsb is set to 100MHz and i have also changed the jumpers for the multiplier to from 3.5x to 5.5x.
i hit the button, the pwr led comes on, all optical drives due their little led blink, all fans start up and that is it. the monitor doesn't kick out standby and no post screen. i have changed out the agp card with a known good pci one but no problem. i have attempted to short the solder spots for the cmos clock, but again nothing. if i remove the cmos battery, how long before the data is gone?
also, when i have connected a network cable to the nic, the connection led does light up, but nothing else.
any ideas???
thanks in advance
