Hey all, I just got another RMA motherboard back from abit for a display and USB problem I had a couple months ago. The first RMAed board wouldnt boot, assumed it was another bad board. Well since this one wont boot and freezes the HDD LED also I figured I'd quick test some components.

First I uninstalled all ram, got the beep sequence so BIOS is working. Attempted both sticks of ram individually, no boot up. Disconnected the HD's and still nothing. Basically I can hear all the disk drives self test and all power and fans start up correctly but the HDD LED is stuck on after switching on.

So is this a CPU? Any way to test beyond trying it in a working computer? Any other part it may be? This setup worked fine before I had my display and USB freezes. Thanks

You think I fried both sticks of RAM? I was thinking CPU. How hard is it to completely fry a CPU or two RAM sticks to the point of not posting?

A little static charge will be enough to do the damage. I would try only one RAM stick at a time to check out.

Yea I tried the individual sticks. Going to test them at my friends house tonight. Ive only touched the heatspreaders or the sides when moving the RAM and tried to relieve static through the PSU. Is it that easy to shock a CPU just holding the sides or touching the top? I dont have any friends with an AM2 motherboard so I might have to head over to the local store for a checkup. I hate just buying parts, more so when its DDR2 rip you off RAM. THanks for the help

Well I reset the BIOS and unplugged a bunch of things, it booted to POST and did so after reconnecting all drives and USB ports. Found out something with my keyboard or the PS2 adaptor the keyboard was using was stalling the boot!! Dont know why.

But now the computer is freezing on the windows load screen and I got a BSoD of IRQL-not equal or less 0x0000 something or other, sorry to be vague. Is there any problem that windows would have with switching out a same type motherboard?

Alright, guess I'm slowly figuring it out. Had to raise the DDR voltage(forgot this for AM2) so now I can use the computer basics.

But now Im back to where I started, getting BSoD's during multitasking or gaming. Getting stop errors 0x000000f4 and 0x00000077 Kernel stack error. Ran a memtest on both modules and got errors after every 100%, tried each stick individually with memtest and got no errors from both in limited testing. Which antivirus should I get to run a test? Apparently 0x077 can be caused by a bootsector virus and I gave up on norton!
