Recently my p4 1.9 ghz computer with a Nvidia GeForce Ti 500 has been having trouble with booting up. I have tried system restore, deleting the drivers (with windows uninstaller and driver cleaner) and reinstalling, and using Omega drivers, and all end up with problems.

During the BIOS loading screen everything will look fine, but once it gets to the Windows XP load screen it will have 4 sets of 3 or 4 blue lines going down, constantly there. Then the monitor will turn off when the windows logon/welcome screen SHOULD be there, and the monitor will not turn on again. Everything else will stay on.

In safe mode it will work, and right after i uninstalled the drivers in normal (w/o drivers) it will work, but there are weird transparent lines going vertical all across that sort of shimmer when I move the mouse. Did my video card break? Or what the heck is wrong? hopefully someone knows the answer... TIA

Is it possible that your resoultion on your video card got somehow set higher than your monitor can display? That can cause a distorted picture with 3 or 4 lines and duplicate icons. Since it works in Safe mode you might want to check it. Otherwise it either sounds like the GPU overheated or it's a driver problem. Just a guess, hope it helps you.

Also it could be your monitor. Do you have another you can try? Your 2nd Paragraph SURE sounds like the resolution is set to high and the monitor is going bezerk then shutting down to protect itself. Seen it happen all too many times.

I doubt it's the GPU overheating because it happened right when I turned it on. I'll try hooking it up to another monitor and post what happens. Also it makes a high pitch noise before it turns off, so you might be right about the monitor going berserk. Thanks for the info, hopefully it's the monitor. If it is, how would I fix it? Right now i'm running that computer with no drivers - i hate having everything at 640 x 400 or whatever it is.

edit: re-reading it, i'm not quite sure if it's what you said, though i'll try a different monitor anyways. I don't even get to see the windows logon/welcome screen before it just goes black and turns itself off. everything is just totally weird with it right now :( :(

also: there are always those weird transparent lvertical lines in safe mode or nomal w/o drivers

nope. At first it seemed to be working and had no lines, but then the lines came while I was installing the drivers, and when I rebooted (after installing the drivers) the same problem happened.
