Everytime i give the comp command to restart it locks up at "windows is preparing to shut down" screen. then i have to switch the comp of manually and turn it on again. NO scan disk is run on restart.

If i give it just the shutdown command it has no problems.

Pls help

Go to Windows update. There is an update for win98 for this problem.

PLEASE POST OS VERSION WHEN HAVING PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE RELATED TO OS!!!!

got windows 98se. i recently installed it and got most of the updates. could u tell me the particular update?

Sorry, I don't have any w98 machines anymore, but the name of the update has something to do with shutting down. I just ran it last week, and it fixed a problem on the machine I was working on.

Akaz1976,

Start -> Programs

Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information

Tools -> System Configuration Utility

Click the advanced button

Turn "Disable fast shutdown" on.

I had this problem last week and this fixed the problem. I had this problem in win98se as well using an Asus CUSL2-C motherboard and PIII/866 chip.
