Hey guys,

I need some serious help. Newly built computer with Asus P5LD2 Deluxe, P4 640, OCZ 1GB PC2 5400, Abit X700Pro, and Antec 500W SmartPower won't go past BIOS.

There are couple of problems:

1.) CPU is way too hot. BIOS is reporting 60C idle stuck in BIOS. Tried two HSF. Stock and Thermaltake Jungle512.

2.) Floppy drive won't read anything. Light doesn't stay on so I know it's connected correctly. It gives me Disk I/O error after it tries to read floppy disk. (Floppy disk has the highest boot priority.

3.) Windows XP installation won't start. After installing common needed drivers to start the installation, it gives me blue screen error.

To resolve this issues, I tried to update the bios but without any drives working, I don't know how to update it. I also reset the CMOS jumpers and took the battery out but that didn't help. Currently, only memory, video card, and floppy drive is connected.

I also called ASUS tech support and they said motherboard could be grounded. They suggested I take everything apart, down to the CPU, reset the CMOS jumper and try again. Is this worth it? Guy also suggested try Arctic Silver thermalpaste but I doubt that will work after trying 2 HSF.

Do you guys think I got sh***y motherboard? Please help! Sorry for the long post.

Excuse me, how could you doubt that the Artic Silver won't work? It's friggin' thermal paste, one of the most reliable ones out there. Besides, I think he's trying to say that he doesn't want you to return it (yet...) because whenever you try to boot up your computer with it overheating, you damage the mobo just a little more which means that its prolonging life is gonna get shorter.
Anyway, it is worth it, strip it down to the CPU and see what's the problem, adding memory next (you need memory anyway in order for it to even start up), and add each perhiperal upon the next boot (artic silver on CPU first - don't forget)

Lastly, after you've done all this and whatever more, send that peice of crap in, shame on them for manufacturing such a peice of *trash mobo - in their so called quality products.

p.s. some OS installations don't start with faulty memory

I have two sticks of RAM.

BTW, I am waiting till tomorrow morning to go to CompUSA or Tiger Direct store and go buy arctic silver. I was doubting that will help because with all this problem i started thinking i got a crap motherboard. But you are right.. let me try what he said first before coming to conclusion.

Thanks guys for quick replies. Will let you know tomorrow if it helped taking everythign apart.

One question, should I put in thermaltake jungle512 back in or stay with stock HSF?

Test ONE stick at a time. If one of them is broken, the comp won't boot.

I'd start with the stock heatsink since that's what it's "supposed" to work with. You can get fancy after you solve the problem.

Try the Arctic Silver. Put in 1 stick of RAM, clear CMOS and boot.
Most people who buy theese new Intels have trouble with overheating because of the 1) hot CPU and 2) Heatsink mechanism. I've heard reports of people pushing the heatsink on just a little bit harder and that solved mostof their issues.
