I'm a newbie and I Just finished my AthlonXP system. When I started the comp it started post and then told me to set the DIMMs from DIMM 4 to DIMM 1 in order, I have two 256MB modules so I did just that. When I rebooted the PC it started to beep at a steady pace and nothing displayed at all. Everything came on, except floopy light, and the power button won't respond to me at all. I'm running an Abit KG-7 RAID and I'm pretty worried. I've double checked everything a bajillion times, and I've set the RAM in I don't know how many different ways and the same problem keeps happening, nothing displays on the monitor and I get this steady beep.

Found this web site which may be of interest...

KG-7 RAID Mobo Site.

I don't have one of these boards but looking the above page a the problem you are having is indeed down to memory.

<< When I try to boot my motherboard beeps at me. What does this mean?
There are a number of beep code you may experience:

No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board
One beep - board is working fine
One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU
Beeeeeep-beep-beep - this means no video card detected (or poorly seated video card)
A single tone, repeated over and over. This is a memory problem (could be the DIMM, the controller, or the CPU cache memory).
A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages.
Rapid stream of beeps - this means a key is stuck on your keyboard, it is not properly plugged in, or the keyboard is incompatible in some way
Four beeps then machine shuts down - with BIOS version WW or WZb00 - this is because these version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on FAN1 header. Make sure you attach a fan to this header! BIOS WZb01 and later have this functionality disabled by default, and it can be enabled in the BIOS.
>>

May be one of your RAM chips is faulty, try each one individually and see if it boots up (put the dimm in the first dimm slot (sometimes called dimm 0).

Let us know how you get on,

Good luck.

It POSTed! BUT the floppy light doesn't come on, the power light doesn't come on and the HDD light definitely isn't coming on. It doesn't respond to the keyboard so I can't enter the BIOS, I'm frustrated so I'm going to sleep its 4:00am for crying out loud.

Swtich over the orientation of the Power LED and HDD LED. If the keyboard is USB type you need to check you bios for settings to have it controlled by the hardware vice the software (read your manual on other boards the options are OS and BIOS). The floppy LED will not come on until the BIOS is ran through and it can only be processed when the KB is detected. Report if you still have other problems.

Alright, when I switched the HDD LED and the Power SW LED, the lights came on and stayed on, but I'm guessing they'll come off when I setup the BIOS. Also, the computer just recognized the CDRW and the DVD drive. I tried a new keyboard and it still doesn't get detected, this one wasn't USB either. I remember putting the HD on the orange IDE connector on the mobo, and I'm thinking if I put it on the primary Blue one if this will make a difference in boot-up /keyboard response. How do I get into the BIOS if the keyboard not even powered by the CPU?
