Computer won't boot

My system:
Win2K
Athlon TBird 1GHz
MSI K7T Pro 2-A
512MB PC133 (2 DIMMs)
40GB
DVD-Rom
CD-RW

Problem:
I was running some processor intensive FEA analysis on my computer when without warning my computer restarted. Since then I haven't been able to boot sucessfully. If it makes it to loading Windows it stops in the middle with a blue "Stop Screen". The message changes each time. Sometimes it freezes before getting to loading Windows. I've even had it freeze while i was in the bios setup utility. I tried checking the memory by taking out one chip at a time. It freezes with either chip. The only other problem I can think of is the processor being fried. It was at 100% utilization for about an hour (with a 2 minute break every 15 minutes), so it makes sense that it would be the problem. Is there any way to check/verify this w/o buying a new chip? I don't want to spend $50 on a new processor only to have it be my motherboard. I wish I could try switching parts, but I don't access to spare parts. Any help or insight is appreciated.

Sounds like the processor to me.
Does the bios have a screen that shows your cpu temp? If so, try to access that screen as quickly as possible.
Also check to see if the FAN on on the CPU HS/FAN is running. I have seen those fail.

Tried booting into safe mode?
Tried booting from the XP cd and choosing the "repair" option?

Along the lines of cpu temps:
Remove the heatsink/fan, check for visible discoloration of cpu and/or socket. Then reapply new thermal paste and reinstall the hs/f.
