I was watching a movie on my HTPC when the screen went blank. the pc was still running. nothing I did would get the screen back so I used the rest button.

it won't post. when I power it up I get no beeps. the fans and HD's spin up but I get nothing on my monitor and no beeps.

I've pulled the cmos battery, cleared, the cmos, unplugged everything including ram. (I was hoping to get some kind of error beep when trying to boot without ram)

nothing I do seems to work. I am open to suggestions!!!!! I am hoping it's something else other than the motherboard going bad.

Gigabyte 780G mased mobo-- ga-ma78gm-s2h
2 GB Gskil DDR2 ram
AMD 5000+BE (not OC'd)
antec powersupply.

If you have a spare cpu I'd try that. If it's not your board it maybe your cpu. Was the HSF seated properly?

check for any blown caps on the mobo etc. Else if you can try that cpu on a good mobo.

I'd definitely try checking your CPU in another mobo. Typically when I come across a no POST system that doesn't beep and won't respond to memory swapping, it's the CPU. So long as the fans are all spinning when you try to power it on. If not then it's a power issue with the PSU or board.

Have you tried unplugging the PSU from the wall for a bit? This has helped me in similar situations.

OK, I put my CPU in the wife's box.... (OK that sounds really dirty!!!)
It boots up fine. I put it back in the HTPC...Son of bitch! it boots up.
I got a weird bios beep though sort of a long one with a short one overlapped on top of it but not a separate long then short beep.

I ran memtest on it for a couple hours, no errors.
the cpu cooler fan is making some noises. but I don't see a bad fan could stop it from booting up. it's a 100mm scythe Shuriken BTW.

It's working for now but something isn't right.
