Computer Won't Boot - Registry File Failure - Win2k

After going throught the win2k loading screen, BSOD with the message -
STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Falure}
The registry Cannon load the give (file):
\System\Root\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternative.

It is corrupt, absent or not writeable.


Help. Won't boot in safe mode.

That's what I meant. What you need to do is pop the install disk in and see if it will boot to the install screen, then report back.

It does boot up to the install screen. I can get to the recovery console, but I have no idea what to do with it.

Do you have a command line? And do you know how to use it?

Yeah, I have a command line with the recovery console and no. Can I fix that problem with the recovery console?

You can, but if you don't know how to use a command line it might be dificult. I'm not really up to explaining how to do this over the web, but someone who can will likely be along shortly.

Actually, it was a ram problem. I had added a couple sticks of ram I had laying around that were previously in there.

Really. Wow. Huh, good news. Of course, if you had told us that you added new RAM in the OP it might have helped....
