Hello Everybody,
I recently built a new computer for myself. The specs are below. My computer was working fine. I was able to install all the drivers and Win98SE(WinMe doesn't quite work with my video card). Everything was going ok, so I left my computer running unattended and stepped out of the house for about an hour. When I returned, I noticed that the screen was black. I assumed it was in sleep mode or something, so I pushed buttons randomly, trying to wake it up. Nothing responded. It seems like my computer froze. So I pushed the reset button. My computer never booted passed the very first screen, where it does the memory check and on the bottom of the screen reads "Press ESC to run Setup". I did notice however that the words "AMD Athlon 900MHz" was print on the screen, so that tells me that my CPU was detected. The problem is that nothing happens afterwards. I also noticed that my keyboard and mouse does not have power to them. I can tell because my optical mouse does not have the red beam shining, and my keyboard is not functioning. Because of this, I can not get into my BIOS. I powered off and rebooted several more times but same results. Every once in a while, I get power back into my keyboard and mouse, and the computer sluggishly(extremely slow) does the memory check. It gets to the part where the computer trys to detect the plug and play stuff(still in the same initial boot screen) and then hangs there for a very long time. I have 2 case fans, plus I haven't yet put on the side door yet, which means my computer was well ventilated. I then tried removing the Lithium CMOS battery for 2-3 hours, hopefully resetting my BIOS and any other reasons why my computer won't boot. I got the same results. I tried some other stuff like, removing the CPU and then replacing it(it looked okay), I tried moving my RAM to a different slot bank, and I even disabled the Jumper Free mode and set the jumpers manually according to the motherboard manual. Nothing seemed to work. So, my conclusion is, that either my motherboard, or my CPU is fried. It looks like my computer is trying to boot, but it is doing it at a very very slow rate. I think it might take all night to boot, if I was willing to wait through it. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
