Computer won't boot / noisy fan

Weird problem started happening today. Moved my computer 15 mins away by car, plugged everything in and now it will not boot.

First the fan is very noisy for a reason, it wasn't before (I cleaned it just now) I got here. After starting up the computer for about 5-6 seconds the whole thing just shuts down on its own. The troubleshooting leds show 3 of them are on when this happens (means it's stuck at "RAM Detect".

I tried without a HDD, with 1 mem stick, different power outlets, waiting 20-30 mins before trying again, etc. No avail.

I didn't bump the computer at all on its way here, I even carried it on my lap in the car.

I think maybe the CPU fan has gone bad? Then the computer would shut itself down when it detects it maybe..

Or could it be something else?

thanks for any help!
