Computer won't boot after installing new memory

I have just installed some new memory (Kingston ValueRAM 256Mb matched to the original memory), 1 stick, into the motherboard.

Original memory was installed in to slot 1 (0?) so I installed the new memory into slot 3 (2?), to taken advantage of the second memory controller (Nvidia nForce2).

On rebooting the system was emitting a rythmic clicking sound from all the components and the fans are running slower - the rear fan has leds on into so I could see there was a power problem - It goes on and off in time to the click.

Removed the memory, the fans speed up to normal but I am getting a single beep from the motherboard: Could somebody clarify that this means memory failure or mobo failure?

Please help.

is the new memory exactly the same as your currently installed memory(memory speed, size, type)??? if so, remove the current and install the new one...if the problem exist then it's the memory...

if the mobo beeps, read the manual of your mobo... the beeps should be defined there...
