Hey guys,
I got a warning my CPU temp was 72C. I turned the computer off to inspect it. The heatsink was covered in dust so i took the fan and heatsink off and removed the heatsink and cleaned it. Then i put it back on and had some trouble getting all 4 plastic pieces secured, i thought i had them in all the way then I booted and it said CPU Fan error- f1 for setup. I went there and it said it was 63C. Then i saw the CPU cord was in the way. Then i was finally able to secure the heatsink/fan all the way and it didnt give me the message: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key".
I tried restarting. Still happened.
I tried disabling the boot device in bios. still happened- restored optimized defaults.
I put the windows CD in and it takes me to the windows installation screen!
I have a feeling that it is not recognizing my hard drive for some reason- that it was knocked loose during the heatsink cleaning, or what else it could be i dont know!
Please help! :)
thanks so much I am very grateful to get the computer running again.

Check to see if you accidentally unplugged the fan from the motherboard. Many boards will halt if there is no fan connected to the CPU Fan header.

I've done that, myself, and I remember hoping I didn't blow the CPU by trying to start it without the fan running.

thanks for the response. i already checked that and the fan is working fine again- its plugged back in.
Here is a picture of the hard drive- there is an empty plug, but i cant find any cord that fits that type.

Another thing to know- since i built my PC it has always said at boot: no hard disk detected, but has worked fine. I cant see how cleaning the CPU fan would cause any problems.
Thanks for any help

Judging by your picture... you don't have the SATA power cable plugged in (the plug to the left of the SATA data cable in the photo.)

You should look around for other wires bad connection.

Finally the computer is working lol. The cable that goes to the start button on the front of the computer is disconnected somewhere, just turned it on using the manual button ON the motherboard after plugging in the hard drive SATA and its working.
Thanks for everyone's kindness and helpful ideas.
Have a nice day
