  1. Overview of the problem
    Computer freezes right after logging into Vista.

  2. Full description of the problem and symptoms
    After logging in as the background programs load in the toolbar, the computer will freeze or freeze shortly thereafter. The same thing happens in all the modes of windows, and the computer freezes when I tried to re-install the OS.

  3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
    The problem started when I installed Netgear WG111v2, and then happened all the time a few days after I installed HP OfficeJet 6400 on wireless network.

  4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
    Computer freezes everytime after signing-in, I get past the "welcome" screen with the spinning circle, but it freezes at the desktop.

  5. I already tried these steps:
    I've unhooked the printer and wireless device, and tried to boot up and the same thing happens. I've tried booting in safe mode, network mode, etc. and it freezes. I've tried to reinstall the OS, but the computer freezes when trying to load the data off the DVD.
    I put the HD in an external drive and hooked up to my MacBook, but all the folders are locked so I can't get my files off. I had most backed up, but there are a few I wanted to save.

  6. My software:
    • Vista Home Premium, 64-bit
    • MicroTrend Internet Security 2007
    • Windows is set to handle the wireless adapter, not the software form Netgear

  7. My hardware
    • System brand & model, if it?s a pre-built system such as a Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. If it?s not, fill in as much of the information below as you can.
    • Asus P5K
    • Intel e6750 (2.66GHz, 4MB cache)
    • Raden HD 3850
    • mushkin 2x2GB DDR2-800
    • Antec Earthwatts 430W power supply

  8. Other information that might be relevant

Right off it sounds like an IRQ resource conflict.

I'm not sure how to address those on Vista (never used it), but you may want to try moving your Network card to another PCI slot.

I was afraid of that.

I've had a bad CD/DVD drive cause the issues you mention (especially the intall), but that doesn't seem to go with the timing of your problem.

It also sounds like you may have two network controller programs conflicting - Windows Networking and Netgear WG111v2.
The Netgear WG111v2 may just be Drivers though (not familiar with this).

Since this is onboard LAN, you can probably go into BIOS and turn it off/disable it and see if that helps.
You might also need to uninstall/delete your Network Drivers and reinstall the older ones you had before.

You've got to isolate your problem.

In no particular order, you've got either;

a memory problem

a motherboard problem

a power supply problem, or

a hard drive problem.

Here's what's telling the tale;

I've tried to reinstall the OS, but the computer freezes when trying to load the data off the DVD.
