Computer will not turn on (at all)

Hello all,

So I just moved my computer from one house to another, and I set it up the same as it was before, and it won't turn on. I had this problem once before, and I figured that it had something to do with the power button so I opened the case and messed around with the little pins that connect the power button to the motherboard and it worked. I figured that it was the same thing this time, so I messed around with it but I could not get it to turn on. I figured that maybe the button was broken, so I took out the motherboard and all of the cards, and just had the main 24-pin power connector going to the motherboard and the processor with heatsink and fan still attached. I took a paperclip and completed the circuit between the two pins for the powerbutton, but still nothing happened. The motherboard does have power btw, the little green light is on. This is seriously killing me here though, does anyone have any idea what might be going on? I don't see any spots on the board where it might have short circuited... but the board is so complex I can't trust my eyes not to find anything.

Do I need more than just the 24-pin big connector to power on the motherboard... does anything else need to be plugged in to get the CPU fan going for instance?

Right now, no. But I don't have a graphics card plugged in at all. I'll try that out right now though. I had it plugged in before, I had everything set-up perfectly before - the computer was running just fine for the past year or so. It was running SLI so I actually had two of those PCI-e connectors in. The mobo is an Asus A8N-Sli Deluxe I believe.

Well, my mobo pretty much seems cooked. I think I'll go buy something nice like a core 2 duo and a new mobo.

In many cases, yes. On my motherboard, for example, there is a 4-pin connector that needs to be plugged in near the CPU.

I'm not sure what kind of configuration you are using though.
