Computer will not RESTART correctly

Hello,
I built this system a couple weeks ago and everything has been fine expect for the fact it will not properly restart(under windows). When I restart, everything shuts down and the boot sequence will not start over until I manually press the restart button. Anybody know what the problem could be? Other than that everything is running great🙂
Epox 8k7a
256 MB Crucial Ram
IBM 30GB 75GXP
AMD 1.33 @ 1.50GHz(10.5x143)🙂

Thought so. 🙂 Have you downloaded all the updates for 98SE from the MS website? I had the same problem when I used 98SE on my Epox. I can't remember the exact cause but there is a specific patch for it if you don't want to DL all the updates.

Do you have DSL with an efficient networks speedstream 3060 or 4060 modem, that will keep your comp from shutting and/or restarting.

I can see from your rig info you are OC'ing. Does the system have the same problem when you are at stock speed? I've had bad experience in using 0.5 multipliers on my 1.33Ghz. Although, the system boots perfectly, it does have instability and the fact the it takes more than twice the CPU power required just to run some programs. I monitored CPU usage using the System Monitor and for some reasons the CPU usage went up to the ceiling when launching programs which usually takes less than 30% of CPU. Even HD Tach the cpu usage went from 2.35% to 42% during testing! Yet the system seems to boot and runs fine.😎

Shide1,
No, I'm running off a switch into a cable modem.
Jiggz,
This problem has been occuring before I overclocked the 1.33 so I don't think that is a factor...
Oh well, I guess I'll jsu deal with this, its not that big of a deal.

Hrmm, I had the same problem, but it happened when i unlocked my processor and the pencil wore off. sucked.

The restart function in Win9X has been problematic for years. A clean reinstall seems to be good for a while but as new stuff is installed and removed, hangs start to occurr. The first to go is the holding the shift bar down while selecting restart to do the quick restart with the restart message in the upper left screen corner. Finally you get the full lock-up requiring a hard reset. There is a plethora of information available in the Microsoft Knowledge Base that can involve several days of software compatibility testing trying to find the offending program.
