I currently am having difficulty getting my Iwill KK266-R with a new 1ghz Duron processor to boot.

Heres some extra stats: 128mb PC133, 2.5gb HDD (lame I know), HP Cd Writer Drive, Regular Cd Drive, Floppy, 250watt Generic PS, Geforce3 Ti: 200, Linksys 10/100 NIC.

The hard drive has XP on it currently. (though that really doesn't matter as it's not getting past the POST!).

Yes my PS switch is set to 115V also.

This is basically a "spare parts" computer. I had all the parts except the processor so for $50 for a Duron 1ghz I popped together this baby.

When I try to boot it, the sounds are good (fans power up, nic lights go on, cd drives spin-up, etc). The floppy drive light stays continuously on (if the pin 1 is to the left) and doesn't blink at all if pin 1 is the the right. As I said though, it's not getting past the POST so it shouldn't be trying to read the floppy anyway.

I have concerns that it's either the mobo or processor. I RMA'd the first Duron 1ghz I got about a week ago (this same problem). The new one doesn't seem to help though.

I am wondering if my 1ghz duron is not compatible totally with the Iwill KK266-R board. On the Iwill website it says 600mhz - 800mhz and above! They didn't release the duron 1ghz until later so I don't know. I imagine it should be compatible though.

Basically my thoughs were this: Either the PS, CPU, or MOBO is wacky. I rules out the PS because I tried a known good PS and it didn't help. Plus everything seemed to be getting power fine. The MOBO is the most likely option but I'm going to try my Athlon 900mhz in it in just a few minutes. I'll edit this post once I try it.

That's my dillema. I'll report back with more tests.

1) Build a minimum system (mobo, cpu, ram, video) and check if it works. In that case at least those components can be excluded.
2) 250W power supply might not be enough. Try a 300+ one

I just popped in my trusty old 900mhz Athlon and it seems to work just fine (no stability problems at all and it posts and boots fine).

This leads me to conclude that the 1ghz processor (which according to a post in the Hot Deals forum runs off the new Morgan core) is not compatible with my Iwill KK266-R. That would seems about the best explination I've got.

Thx for the responses guys.

If anybody has info about the incombatibility I'd still like to here it though.

Try putting your 900MHz Athlon back in and update your motherboard BIOS with the newest version available on the IWill webpage.
