I have a GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 LGA 775 motherboard and I have purchased two kits of CORSAIR XMS@ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800.
I received the first 2GB kit with the rest of my computer so I set it up, put everything together and burned in the memory and processor following the directions I found from searching this forum - installed Vista Enterprise and Ubuntu x64.
Everything passed and has been stable, fast forward two days and I recieved the second 2GB kit - put the RAM in the other 2 DIMMs and powered on my machine, the fans started spinning for about two seconds before cutting off again and it would automatically seem to try and power itself on over and over again until I flipped the power supply switch off.
I took one of the sticks out to leave three in and tried again one at a time, I narrowed the problem down to one of the CORSAIR 1GB sticks, if it is in the machine with all four sticks of RAM, the computer cycles as described above.
If it is in the machine with the two I have determined already to be stable, it spams me with rapid fast beeps (which i believe indicates a memory problem?)
Right now my machine is using the first 2GB kit and one of the 1GB sticks from the second kit for a total of 3GB.
Is there anything else I can do to make sure one of the sticks in the second kit is not bad before I remove the other 1Gb stick from my machine and RMA them back to Newegg as running with only 2Gb really punches me in the crotch.
Thanks D:
