Well, jus to tell you backgroud information, I'm running an ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe mobo with a AMD 64 3200+ CPU. Ok so I was trying to flash my bios because I saw that i was running bios version 1001 and the latest version from the ASUS website was 1004. So i decided to use the EZFlash way of downloading the new bios, renaming the file to K8VSEDX.ROM, putting in onto a floppy, rebooting the computer and hitting <alt> + <f4> during POST. So it said what it was supposed to say:

User recovery requested. Starting BIOS recovery...
Checking for floppy...

and this point i put in the floppy that had the bios in it

Floppy found!
Reading file "K8VSEDX.rom". Completed.

and then it said something on the order of:

Erasing BIOS.../

and then a dreaded:

Flashing failed!

So i panicked. The cursor was just left flashing after Flashing failed! and i couldnt do anything. I tried hitting <esc>, <delete>, <ctrl> + <alt> + <delete>, and nothing worked. So i did the only thing i could think to do, manually shut it down by holding in the power button. So it shut down, and i rebooted and now it dosnt boot at all. When i start it up its just a black screen, and it seems like the monitor isant even getting signal since the light on the monitor is still orange instead of green. So i dont know what to do guys, I have the original CD that came with the Mobo which has the original BIOS on it, but when i put it on a floppy and put it into the computer and boot up, still nothin happens. So please tell me that one of you brilliant guys knows a solution. Any help would be MUCH appreciated, the sooner the better. Thanks a lot.

I just flashed my k8n-e Deluxe mobo from 1001 to 1004. I used the utility on the CD-rom, and it worked fine. But for some reason I had the wrong drivers, and now my lan doesn't work and I can't use my internet broadband connection to access new ones. I can't help you with your problem, though you did scare me into not flashing my bios using Asusdos. Just make sure you have the right drivers first.

Thanks for the find man, seems like the situation that suits me is the first one, where i need to do it by listining and such since the video is no longer working. The only problem is that i dont know if this asus K8V-SE Deluxe has a "flash recovery" jumper setting (which would make me mad if they didnt, why wouldn't they make one?). Unfortunatly in the manual it lists only 3 different jumper settings: 1) A "Clear RTC RAM" jumper that seems to clear the real time clock RAM in CMOS. 2) A "Keyboard Power" jumper setting which seems to enable or disable the keyboard wake-up feature. And A 3) A "USB Device wake-up" jumper setting which is pretty self explanatory. I find it hard to believe that there would only be 3 total jumper settings on the whole mobo, so maybe there's additional jumper settings that arent in the manual? Thanks man.

Hey I found this site: Link

If ya go to number 9, I think im goin to try solution number 1, because it seems like only intel boards have "flash recovery" jumper settings. So the only thing i wonder is whats the difference between AWARD and AMI? Will both work?

FIX HERE .....

Hi, I had exactly the same problem, we cured it by unpluging everything, (mains, memory, any addtional cards (eg, sound and video), keep the motherboard connected to your machine chasis. Remove the CMOS battery, and HOLD in the power button on your machine for abount a minute - this will drain any remaining power from your motherboard. We also had the jumper set to clear the clock, but this failed to reset the bios by itself, but it may have helped towards the complete drain. Anyway - it worked a treat for us - thank goodness

Good luck - please reply if successful, cheers Lee. :)

you could try this i found it some months ago.

With motherboards that use BOOT BLOCK BIOS it is possible to recover a corrupted BIOS by
reprogramming it from a floppy diskette as long as the BOOT BLOCK section of the BIOS
remains unmodified. When a system with an AMI BIOS has a corrupt BIOS the system will
appear to start, but nothing will appear on the screen, the floppy drive light will come on and the
system will access the floppy drive repeatedly.

AMI has integrated a recovery routine into the BOOT BLOCK of the BIOS, which in the event the
BIOS becomes corrupt can be used to restore it. The routine is called when the SYSTEM BLOCK
of the BIOS is empty. The restore routine will access the floppy drive searching for a BIOS ROM
file named AMIBOOT.ROM, (this is why the floppy drive light comes on and the drive spins.) If the
NOTE: Make sure that the PC speaker inside your computer is working before you proceed.
When the BIOS has been restored your system will beep four times to let you know.
To restore an AMI BootBlock BIOS follow these steps:
1) Format a good working 1.44MB floppy diskette.
2) Copy a working BIOS ROM file for your motherboard onto the floppy disk. BIOS ROM
files can usually be downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer?s web site. If you
cannot locate a BIOS ROM file for your motherboard then call the motherboard
manufacturer for technical support.
3) Rename the BIOS ROM file ?AMIBOOT.ROM?
4) Turn the system on and insert the disk into drive A:
5) After about 3 ~ 4 minutes the system will beep four times. Remove the disk from the
drive. The computer will then restart.

At this point your BIOS should be restored and the system should startup normally. If your system
does not startup normally then try using a different BIOS ROM file for your motherboard

i know you cannot you your current machine to make a floppy so use a friends or somthing.

hope this helps.
