Computer Very Slow when Burning CD

WHen I copy/burn a CD, my whole computer feels like it's about to die. I can't use teh internet because everything just freezes. What do I need to make my comp. better?

btw - It's my work computer. It's a Dell P4 2ghz that didn't come with a burner and I added a nec3250 to it.

Probably a problem in ide settings.
Go to control panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager-IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
Expand it and right click on your ide controller. In my case i would right click on my Nvidia Nforce 2.
Go to properties and then most likely click secondary channel (if your cd-rw/ dvd-rw is connected to the second ide cable or primary if its connected on the first)
Depending on the model cd-rw/ dvd-rw it should be either set to Ultra DMA 2 or 4
Its its not then set it and restart, even if it seems to be choose another mode, restart, and then switch back to the highest setting DMA 2 or 4.
