Computer very slow to start reboot phase

From the time i tell the computer to reboot until i see the "Saving your settings" screen is around 35 seconds. This happens after every reboot, shutdowns occur much faster like around 5 seconds or less. I did this after a fresh startup just to test it. I have windows xp sp a new install as of 10/14/05, new computer parts too. I have antivirus running, have run spybot and adaware and nothing bad was found.

I do not know the cause of this but my machine has always been this way. It will reboot fast for the first month after a reload then it starts taking forever. I have run many benchmarks and have found no signifigant difference in performance pre to post slow reboot phase so it is not really affecting the way the machine works.

I am curious if anyone has an exact cause besides just a bloated windows.

Well, it's very likely that one of your apps is taking too long to respond to the WM_SHUTDOWN message. Run msconfig.exe from the start menu->run dialog, and then click the Startup tab. You can selectively enable/disable startup programs and services in this dialog. Disable them one by one until the machine reboots faster.
